Reducing Carbon Footprint
All rooms, public areas, restaurants and offices at the resort utilize energy saving light bulbs to reduce consumption. The rooms also operate using a keycard system where the key is inserted in a key reader to activate light and air conditioning units within the room upon entry. A few minutes after a guest leaves their room the electricity automatically turns off with the exception of the minibar so that a cold drink will always be nearby, very handy in Jamaica's hot and humid climate. Another energy saving feature is installed on balcony doors, when opened the air conditioning in the room will go off.
Separation of garbage and recycling of used cardboard, paper, plastic and glass is another main focus of the resort. Additionally in an effort to support nearby local farmers, food remains are separated to feed livestock. These initiatives have aided the resort in curtailing the amount of money spent on electricity, waste disposal thereby reducing its carbon footprint.
Water Conservation
The resort is equipped with water saving devices: flow restrictors in faucets, dual flush system in restrooms and automatic chemical dispensers. In an effort to consistently improve its conservation efforts, the maintenance team conducts daily readings of water meters.
A linen and towel usage program has been implemented which allows guests to contribute in reducing water consumption, use of chemicals and energy usage. Guests wishing to use their towel for one more day are asked to hang it on the towel rack and if they need it to be changed, kindly leave it in the Jacuzzi tub.
Rooms are cleaned daily, so guests enjoy clean and freshly made beds every day, however sheets are changed every three days, sheets can be changed sooner if requested, by simply placing the provided card on the bed when leaving the room.
The resort's irrigation system operates on a timer, water sprinklers keep the surroundings lush by watering in the early morning or late evening. The beautiful landscape at this resort is a collection of indigenous plants and trees which are a natural habitat for the native insects and reptiles. With a keen interest in preserving the natural environment, cleaning and pest control agents are carefully selected on the basis of being environmentally friendly.
